Tornadoes threaten millions in +10 states

Millions of people are under threat from tornadoes and severe storms in the United States. More of 10 states are at risk. Threats include destructive winds, large hail and strong tornadoes.

This new episode arrives just days after a deadly outbreak of tornadoes which caused severe damage in several communities.

Severe storms return to the center of the country

Storms will develop again Tuesday in the central United States. Some areas are still recovering from recent damage.

The area at risk extends from Texas to Michigan. This places millions of people in the path of possible severe thunderstorms.

Recent outbreak left deaths and destruction

Between the March 5 and 7, at least 23 tornadoes made landfall in the center of the country. Their intensity varied between EF0 and EF3.

The outbreak left at least eight people dead. Many communities suffered significant damage.

Storms crossed Texas, the Great Plains and the Midwest. They then advanced into the region of the Great Lakes and Northeast.

Favorable environment for strong storms

Meteorologists monitor a atmospheric system advancing from Mexico toward the Great Plains.

At the same time, another system moves through the north of the country. When the two interact, winds at high altitude increase.

This helps to transport warm and humid air from the Gulf of Mexico to the north.

Risk of hail, winds and tornadoes

The warm and unstable air favors severe storms and supercells.

The storms could produce:

  • Large hail
  • Destructive winds
  • Strong tornadoes

The areas at greatest risk include parts of Texas, Missouri and Illinois.

Storms could continue overnight

The risk of tornadoes could increase on Tuesday night. This usually occurs when storms are still active after sunset.

That is why it is important that you are clear about the safe place in your home.

Therefore, nighttime storms could still be dangerous in several regions.
